The Struggle for the Title

Thursday 10 April 2008 by legendary_totoro

The 2nd half of the Championship has just started but our chances are already at stake...

Quick browsing

As stated after last week’s match, there are 3 main teams that are aiming for the title. Those teams are Tefana, Venus and us, Pirae. We lost once to Tefana so we couldn’t afford to lose again since it would then be mandatory for us to win against Venus for the last match of the season in their gymnasium.

The pressure was high the day before the match and even the minutes before entering the court because the girls were also playing Tefana this night. We started heating up when Tefana was leading 2-0 but our girls made a unexpected comeback at 2-1 then tied for 2-2 and forced Tefana to go to the tie-break. The girls from Pirae would win the last set and it’s great for them, but we were also forced by them to stay in alert during a whole hour (our match was following theirs).

So, when we finally get to start pratice on the court, the tension was already very high. Facing this kind of pressure I couldn’t settle down and our heat up period didn’t go well. This lead to some misplaced words between the coach and some players and I take full responsability here.

I somehow manage to get past this event and start the match with a clear state of mind : WIN !

First Set

There’s no clear advantage for either of the two teams until the very end of the set.

I'm on the left, there's a link to a better resolution picture somewhere hidden in the page

I get some clear advices from my coach to give the ball to Maka on the left wing but in the end, I decide to shove at the center with Terou who’s in a great shape tonight. Unfortunately, I didn’t put the ball high enough for him to spike and we lose the first set.

I’m clearly responsible for the loss of the set for two reasons :
- I didn’t follow the coach’s game plan
- I couldn’t win the point to back up my decision with good results

This is where you see that I’m a rookie at the post and I sure need to improve in game vision & tactical choices...

Second Set

I took the blame on me for losing the set and I enter the 2nd one with convictions we’ll be able to get even on the score.

The central blocker wasn't expecting this !

We lead 16-14 at the second technical timeout, but start making faults in receiving and in spiking.

They manage to get back at 23-23 and even a set point with an ace... We head back to the bench when our coach takes a timeout and asks me to give the ball to Maka.

Back on the court, they serve right behind the left wing which makes Maka receive and he’s in a bad shape to keep it up with a spike should I follow the plan. I decide to set to Rafio who’s in the back but he doesn’t manage to score. Maybe he was a little surprised to get the ball at this point but I don’t think I made the wrong choice here.

The ball crosses the net several times but we finally lose the set with a spike from their center.

A bientôt.

      Hi,

Thanks for the tutorial. I’ve completely forgotten about Virtual Dub, so thanks for the reminder. The thing is I have to transform AND compress my .vob file into an .avi (or .mpeg) file so I can upload it using my 56k connection (yeah dial-up still exists).

I’m still messing around with some options in Virtual Dub but so far, the software creates a file bigger than the original one, which is obviously not what I need to do...
